So what do I do?
After the successful “Name a Hog” program, Andrew's hedgehog hospital is introducing the opportunity to sponsor a bed in the hospital it operates in Lincolnshire. Even just £50 will fund one bed in the care ward for one week, so getting involved is not expensive.
Andrew's operates one of the best hedgehog wildlife hospitals in the UK and has examined, treated and operated on nearly 6,000 hedgehogs from it's Appleby based premises since it's opening in 2007.
The hospital is almost fully reliant on support from donors within the UK who have been keeping it in operation for over twelve years. The hospital administrator Veronica Tett, and the rest of the staff (all volunteers) are local. Besides improving the level of health care, the hospital also serves as an instructional centre for the care and recouperation of these native creatures.

“British residents are helping save the lives of hedgehogs in the UK” We want to encourage them to help even more, so we are offering the opportunity to ‘sponsor’ a hospital bed. The hospital can use any amount people can give, but we decided to calculate the exact costs per week, month and year for individual beds in the hospital’s various wards. Contributors will receive a certificate for their donation and be given the opportunity to name the hedgehog who is the beneficiary during the time of the care received. We are also planning on bringing more stories out of the hospital, so that people can see how their donations are at work.
Veronica Tett “I am sure that since the Name a Hog Program was so well received in the UK, where support could help specific hedgehogs to get required medication and care before their re-release into the wild, that this new program will provide them a much better chance of survival.”
How does sponsoring work?
There is no limit on donations, but for the sake of orientation we calculated the specific amounts corresponding to the cost of operating particular types of beds in the hospital for a particular amount of time. The funds we collect in this manner will be used to cover medicines for hedgehogs, veterinary costs, food and shelter. These items compose about 60% of the hospital’s total costs and are dependent on support from donations.
